THE LOGO OF THE HERITAGE OF THE UNESCO

The logo of the Humanity Heritage of the Unesco is still not really known and not to be confused with the common UNESCO logo. Here we present it with an explanation of its symbology. The emblem of the Humanity Heritage is used to identify the properties protected by the Convention of Worldwide Heritage and registered in the official list. The logo is symbol of nature and work of mankind. The central square sybolises the abilities and human inspirations, the circle of nature. The emblem is round, as the world, symbol of global protection for the heritage of all humanity. Drawn by the artist Michel Olyff, it has been adopted as official emblem in 1978.

THE REASONS BEHIND THE RECOGNITION

«The insertion of architecture and art in a natural landscape, with spiritual and educational purposes, has touched its peak with the Sacri Monti of North Italy. These have influenced further developments throughout Europe». The Sacri Monti represent the «well done integration» of architecture and art in a natural enivronment of «great beauty» and in «an important period of the history of the Roman Catholic Church».
