The Chestnut

Considered the “King of Wood” because of its height (about 20-30 metres), it’s the most widespread fruit tree in our territories, in particular in the communes of Brinzio, Castello Cabiaglio, Cocquio Trevisago, Comerio, Orino and Bregazzana.

There are 5 different kinds of chestnuts: the russirò, mainly used for exsiccation, the venégon, used for fresh consumption, the pliscé, the paié and the verdesa.

Of great interest is the “Città del Castagno” project, planned and realized in Brinzio; it consists in learning to pick up and to work all the different kinds of chestnuts.
